Filtrine SFX Filter/Sterilizers provide total water quality control to all potable water outlets in a building. Your plumbing design should provide a separate "pure water" line that will run through the SFX water quality control unit and a wet column feeding lateral lines in the ceiling plenum on each floor. Using the plenum design, you pick up all potable water fixtures including bubblers, fillers, coffee urns, ice makers, etc. and provide the flexibility for future renovation.

SFX water quality control is a 3-way treatment system designed to supply the cleanest and most pure drinking water possible. Appearance problems such as discoloration and turbidity are eliminated with biodegradable filter element. Off-tasting water is treated with deep-bed activated carbon which removed odors, tastes and chemicals. Water borne pathogens which pose health threats are eliminated with a massive dose of UV sterilization. Optional reduction of lead or arsenic is available where this treatment is required.

BIODEGRABLE FILTER ELEMENTS
The water is first pre-filtered through a replaceable element. This removes sediment down to 5 microns (elements to remove particles down to 1 micron can be specified). Filtrine's cellulose filter cartridges, used to remove sediment and particles are rated BIODEGRADABLE which means that they will degrade completely after disposal. The unique "DualSeal" double O-ring design seals top & bottom of cartridge inside the housing to insure first-day effectiveness for the life of the cartridge.

TASTEMASTER™ BULK CARBON TREATMENT
The filtered water then passes through large cells of BIODEGRADABLE granular activated carbon where chemicals such as chlorine, PCB's, THM's and organic tastes and odors are removed. Each cell contains at least three pounds of activated carbon for each gallon per minute of rated flow. Both filter element and carbon media can be replaced quickly and easily to provide first day efficiency year after year.

STERI-FLO® STERILIZER
The filtration and deep-bed carbon adsorption described above provide the water clarification needed for effective UV radiation. This greatly improves the efficiency of the ultraviolet radiation because it eliminates shadows caused by turbidity in the water. The ultraviolet rays, in concentrated doses, break through the other cell walls of waterborne micro-organisms and penetrate into the nucleus to destroy the DNA.

In Steri-Flo® sterilizers, UV radiation with a wavelength of 2,536 angstrom is produced from a low pressure mercury lamp. The lamp is encased in a special high purity quartz sleeve which is immersed in water inside of the stainless steel sterilizing chamber. By regulating the flow of water through this chamber, disease-causing micro-organisms, such as bacteria, algae, spores and viruses are exposed to a dose of at least 40,000 µW-sec/cm2 — over twice the dosage required to ensure safe drinking water.
